Tips for Finding an ADHD Physician or Therapist and ADHD Support
Tacoma, WA—2001
- Check out our National ADHD Directory. It can help you find clinicians, support groups, and coaches who work with ADHD.
- Explore ADD Resources links to other directories of ADHD service providers.
- Visit the web sites for www.chadd.org, www.add.org, www.additudemag.com, www.add.about.com, www.sarisolden.com, and www.addvance.com (for women). These sites have information on local chapters or support groups. Some of them run chat rooms where you might find people from your area.
- Do a search at www.google.com. Put in the words "ADHD (your state)" or "ADHD (largest city near you)".
- Post to or peruse the bulletin board at www.add.about.com where people can locate ADHD clinicians.
- Join an on-line ADHD Support Group. Many are available at www.groups.yahoo.com and www.supportpath.com.
- Read the article at our web site entitled, "ADHD 101."
- Become a member of ADD Resources and receive our Adult ADD Reader as well as our quarterly, eight-page newsletter, ADDult ADDvice. As a member you may also borrow from our lending library with over 450 titles in books, audiotapes and video tapes on ADD. All this for only $45 the first year and $25 to renew.
Cynthia Hammer was diagnosed 11 years ago at age 49 with ADHD. Her life improved so much after the diagnosis that she started a support group in Tacoma for adults with ADHD. From that small beginning, ADD Resources, a non-profit organization, has now grown to a national organization with over 800 members with Cynthia serving as it's part-time director.
