ADD And Self-Esteem
For an individual with a diagnosis of ADD, positive self-esteem can be hard to acquire. Whether an ADD adolescent is in the classroom, or in relationship to his parents, there are frequently social functioning expectations that are difficult to meet. The same can be true for an ADD adult within the work environment, or in relationship with a spouse. Often, the inability to meet those expectations is negatively attributed to laziness or lack of concern for others, rather than as symptomatic of ADD. When these and other negative attributions are repeated, over time, the individual comes to identify with those attributions, affecting self-esteem. This workshop will focus on how ADD can negatively or, potentially positively, influence self-esteem. Specific interventions designed to enhance self-esteem will also be discussed.

This can create challenges especially when the undiagnosed member is the parent of an ADD child.
