How Can We Survive?
Last week I was told a very discouraging thing. The leader of one of our five monthly support groups asked those in attendance what more Attention Deficit Disorder Resources could do for them—and the answer was—provide more things for free!
Most of the people who attend our monthly support group meetings are not members. Most of the people who read this free monthly eNews are not members. How can Attention Deficit Disorder Resources survive and continue to provide numerous free services without revenue?
Our primary sources of income are memberships, conferences and workshops, and book sales. But now, with declining audiences for our conferences and workshops, and with it a decline in book sales, we are starting to hurt. We have fixed costs for staff ($2000/mo) rent ($550/mo) phone, web hosting and internet services ($175/mo) insurance ($100/mo) supplies, and more.
Where will this money come from? Can you do your part? If Attention Deficit Disorder is making a difference in your life, become a member or renew your membership today! Make a donation!
Thank you for your consideration.
Cynthia Hammer, MSW, Director

Time Sense Exercise
Bonnie Mincu, ADHD Coach, developed the TIME SENSE EXERCISEŠ to help ADD Adults get a better handle on time. If you're like many ADDers, you may have a hard time predicting how long things will take, or feeling how much time has passed when you are engaged in an activity. This makes it very difficult to plan and realistically budget your time.
The Time Sense Exercise is a simple pen and paper tool. Yet it makes a dramatic difference within just a few days of working it, and it takes just minutes a day. Try it!
Participate in a Free 12–Week Course to Heal Anxiety and/or Depression
Dr. Daniel Amen has teamed with Byron Katie, author of Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life, to create a 12–week program for reducing anxiety and depression in the course participants. They are looking for 300 participants to test this program which includes receving free CDs each week along with vitamins and fish oil. Participants must do journaling and other tasks to complete the course. If interest, please email Dr. Amem.
Consequences of Adult ADHD
At its most harmless, adult ADHD is a disadvantage, both personally and professionally. At its worst, it can actually be dangerous. Research shows that adults with ADHD have much higher risk for certain problems than adults who don't have ADHD. Adults with ADHD are:
- 2x more likely to rarely or never use BIRTH CONTROL
- 4x more likely to have contracted a SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE
- 3x more likely to be currently UNEMPLOYED
- 2x more likely to have PROBLEMS keeping friends
- 47% more likely to have trouble PAYING BILLS
*Data compiled from a study comparing the young adult adaptive outcomes of nearly 140 children (ADHD and non-ADHD control) followed concurrently for at least 13 years. From http://www.webmd.com/content/article/122/114733.htm
