Nursing a Grudge

For the past year I have been nursing a grudge against a friend who I thought didn't like me as much as she pretended to. Every time my mind wasn't occupied with something else, I would return to my grudge, working over and over again the variations on the theme. I would tell myself it was fruitless, a waste of time, wasn't helping the situation, etc., yet there I was, stewing about it again and again.

Dr. Hallowell writes how the mind of the ADHD person needs to be engaged, and when it is not engaged in something engaging, it engages it less enlightening activities-like worrying or nursing a grudge. Our mind, dwelling on the worry or the grudge, becomes like the hamster running round and round on his wheel, never getting us anywhere, but unable to stop.

When my friend's husband got badly injured in a bicycle accident and was in intensive care—everything changed. Suddenly, nursing my grudge was no longer an issue. Someone I knew and cared about was deeply distressed by the change in her family. What could I do to help? What could I do to show that I was there for her and cared about her and what she was going through? My grudge evaporated instantly and I am confident it won't return. The accident proved to be a reality check for me.

What was important? My feelings of hurt over perceived rejection or being a good friend to someone in need?

What grudges are you nursing along? Would your life be better if you stopped paying so much attention to what, from the right perspective, amounts to a hill of beans? Try to forgive the other person—whatever trepasses they have committed—because, without forgiveness, you are going to continue to suffer. Nursing a grievance may make you feel self–righteous, but it also makes you feel lousy.

National ADHD Awareness Day is Sep 19

What can you do to increase responsible awareness of ADHD? Print out our poster and put it up in a public place—library, city hall, school, church, everywhere. Let people know that ADHD exists and that they should get their information on this disorder from reputable sources.

Free (and Outstanding) Weekly Teleclasses Start in September

As outstanding as they are, we have decided to make all our teleclasses free. Participate in live teleclasses with some of the national authorities: Chris Dendy, Sandy Maynard, Edward Hallowell, Nancy Ratey along with other outstanding ADHD presenters. We kick off our fall series—September through November— of weekly teleclasses with Chris Dendy, noted national ADHD authority and author. The title of her teleclass is Understanding the Impact of ADHD and Executive Function Deficits on Learning. This teleclass is specially for parents getting their children ready to return to school or for anyone that is a student. The teleclass is on Wednesday, September 5 at 5 pm PST.

Next in the line up is ADHD Coach Extraordinaire Sandy Maynard talking about Exercise: How to Make Time for It? This teleclass is on Tuesday the 11th at 5 pm PST.

On Tuesday, Sep 19 at 6 pm PST (7 pm MST, 8 pm CST and 9 pm EST), Ari Tuckman, Ph.D. will present on Explanation or Excuse?—Take Charge of Your Life.

The final presentation in September will be with Pauline Laurent, ADHD Coach, talking about Spiritual Interventions for ADHD on Thursday, Sep 27 at 5 pm PST.

On Tuesday, October 2 at 6 p.m. PST (7 p.m. MST., 8 pm CST and 9 pm EST) participate in a teleclass with Dr. Edward Hallowell on Unwrapping the Gifts of the ADD Mind.

Registration is now open for Parts I and Part II of ADHD Coaching, taught by Sandy Maynard. Each of these 8–session (90 minutes each) teleclasses comes with a full workbook. Coaching to the Core!—Mentoring for ADHD Coaches

A series of mentoring conference calls for ADHD Coaches taught by Nancy Ratey, Ed.M., MCC

This interactive, hands–on, telecourse presents the AD/HD coaching model (partnership, structure and process) as a framework to deepen participants' understanding of the coaching dynamic and build upon existing coaching skills. Group discussion facilitates learning from, and sharing with, other coaches. Participation in and observation of live coaching enhances participants' mastery of workshop material.

Teleclass Series on ADHD and Relationships

AD/HD and Your Relationship with Your Significant Other: Make Some Changes Now!
