General ideas on conducting a class:
- Welcome each person, individually, who is on the call
- Explain the protocol for call
- Don‘t mute phones but keep background noises down.
- A land line or headset works best. Keep the handset close to the base.
- If latecomers join the call, instructor will welcome them.
- Say you want them to get value from the class.
- Encourage participants to ask questions, but to give name first.
- If two people try to speak at once, the instructor will sort out who will speak first.
- Forewarn participants that at end of the class, they will be asked what they thought was particularly valuable in the class.
- Let them know you will be giving a short promo for membership in ADD Resources
During the call
- Introduce self and give agenda for the class session.
- Be enthusiastic and upbeat. Keep things moving along.
- Be aware that "ahs" and "ums" as fillers don't sound good. Long sentences connected by "and" or "so" are hard to follow.
- Think about building rapport. Think about engaging them in the process. Seek their input on items.
- Thank people when they ask a question. Always say it is a good question. Learn people‘s names and keep track of who said what. Refer back to what people said.
- When 30 minutes have gone by, check in with class, how is it going so far? Any questions?
- Ten minutes to go: Summarize the learning.
- Ask participants for feedback on what they thought was particularly useful to them.
- Compliment class for being a great class.
