Mar 25, 2005 · startup/login script in debian. Hi all, I've been trying to find a place to put a script that is to be executed upon the (automatic) login of my user. Now, I put the script into the /etc/onot.d and linked it to the rc.X's with a high number o that it gets executed late but it didn't fix my issue. It needs to be executed sometime after the login.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/97137/how-do-you-run-a-script-on-login-in-nix

When using Bash, the first of ~/.bash_profile, ~/.bash_login and ~/.profile will be run for an interactive login shell. I believe ~/.profile is generally run by Unix shells besides Bash. Bash will run ~/.bashrc for a non-login interactive shell.. I typically put everything I want to always set in .bashrc and then run it from .bash_profile, where I also set up a few things that should run only ...

The shell script is a text file with the execution bit set and contains the commands in the following format. #!/bin/sh ... command lines. The first line specifies the shell interpreter which read and execute this file contents. Reading shell scripts is the best way to understand how a Unix-like system works. Here, I give some pointers and reminders for shell programming.

The script in question consists of a single command (ifup wlan0) to connect the wifi and requires root privileges. My system is debian testing, slim login manager, and jwm as window manager. I have tried the following: creating the .service way with systemd. It starts the script, but turns it …

Nov 13, 2012 · While CloudMan makes a good point about updating the rc runlevels in debian and how it is different from other distros you can place this script in rc.local, use su -c to run it as the user you need it run as. example. su -c "startup.sh" rc.local will execute at the very end of the boot process.

Apr 05, 2017 · This is a little guide to display dynamic login messages on a Debian system. This is one of those things where the internet has plenty of resources, but they are mostly outdated and contradictory. Even typing man motd in Debian is a sad experience. It is not a difficult thing to do but it can be a big waste of time to sort out the contradictions.
