Dec 22, 2011 · I'm installing Debian 6.0.3 as a server. At the end of the installation process the system reboots and I must login. I try to login as root. However the system does not except my password. I get message: Authentication failure. Login as normal user is ok. So, I did a new install and paid extra attention to my password. However the same result.

unfortunately, at every attempt at doing anything with su, I was given an authentication failure. Could not login as root, could not su as root, and my regular account of course was not in sudoers. trying to log into single user mode tells me it can't open a console because the root account is locked out.
