Since security is a major concern nowadays, so hotel staffs are trained to alert security if DND sign is hanged for more than 24 hours. Now hotel authorities are also changing their policy and added the statement that they have all the right to enter hotel even when DND sign is displayed.

A DND - (Do not disturb) sign clearly indicates that the room attendant should check later if service is required. If there is no response till evening ( 2.00pm or 3.00 pm ) then the housekeeping supervisor should ring the guest and check if he / she requires the room to be serviced.

Disney Hotels replaced "Do Not Disturb" signs with "Room Occupied," and now reserve the right to enter at any time. At Hilton Hotels, managers must be notified if the "Do Not Disturb" sign is on a door for more than 24 hours. If you do not want your room cleaned during your stay, you can specifically request the front desk to not clean the room.

May 18, 2015 · Almost all hotels I’ve stayed at (and I’m a very heavy DND user) would just slip a note under the door saying they tried to enter to clean but they noticed the Do not Disturb sign so will come back at a later time, etc) – but in fancier words.
