Nov 04, 2014 · I can’t log on to the DC (2012 R2 - 2003 Domain Level). My user account is part of Domain Admins, Schema Admins (the facilitate DC migration a while ago, I know, I should change that), Enterprise Admins, etc.. I can log onto anything in the Domain. I’ve RDPed successfully to every other server this morning.

Also I can't logon locally at all (<computer_name>\administrator and others). Also, if it might be any help - before I tried to switch users, I added "Domain Users" to be able to connect to remote desktop and also changed SPN for one of the users, but that was not the user I tried to logon to.

This is a virgin test domain, I am following Microsoft Press' 70-290 Training Kit. To be honest, it is quite possible that, after hours of testing to solve another problem, I removed the domain administrator from the domain remote desktop users group and forgot to add it back.

Short sob story is, while updating the NIC drivers on our secondary domain controller, it disabled the primary NIC, enabled the second onboard NIC, and now I can't login to console as it can't contact the primary and authenticate.

Before a Domain Controller is promoted to that role, it is a simple workgroup (standalone) server and has a local Administrator account and a local Administrators group. When you create a domain, those accounts don't go away; they're incorporated into the domain as the domain Administrator account and the domain builtin\Administrators group.

Jan 10, 2017 · Unfortunately, Domain Controllers don’t have the Local Users and Groups databases once they’re promoted to a Domain Controller. Depending on what your needs are, you might be able to add the user or service account into the Domain\Administrators group within Active Directory.

Sep 08, 2007 · Oddly enough, it wouldn't let me switch to work group even with admin creds; the OK button grays out. However, i was able to use the 'network id' option and the wizard to switch the computer to a "home computer". After restart, It had automatically been removed from the domain. Strange. I then reassigned the client to our domain. Restarted again.
