Mar 01, 1986 · Of the 163 species of land birds that breed in the Solomon Islands, for example, only 18 percent are found elsewhere. Some communities, which have traditionally "owned" the land collectively, are beginning to realize the destructive and unsustainable nature of the present logging in their forests and are now resisting the multinational loggers.
