Apr 17, 2018 · As Rod-IT says you need the Root user in VMware. In earlier version of the product, if you were connecting to your host by ssh i.e. putty , you had to log on as a user then do a su root to switch to the root. This changed after version 4. To keep yourself safe, only disclose the root password to those who need it and make it a complex password.
