The E111 was replaced in 2005 with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). There are no current plans to withdraw from the reciprocal health arrangements within the EU due to Brexit and those who need treatment will continue to receive emergency assistance when travelling abroad.

Although the European health card is designed to provide access to medical treatment, it does not replace travel insurance.
