Florida Unemployment Benefits. The Unemployment Insurance provided in the state of Florida is intended to provide monetary assistance to those who lose their jobs for no fault of their own. It is also designed in such a way that it helps the applicants find other career opportunities at the earliest.

Moreover, in the state of Florida, the first week of unemployment is not considered eligible for unemployment benefits. As such, your first date to claim your weekly benefits will be 3weeks after you initially claimed unemployment benefits, and then the benefits paid out will only be for 2 weeks.

Florida Unemployment Benefits — Reemployment Assistance. The Florida government recently passed a law changing the name of the Unemployment Compensation Program to the Reemployment Assistance Program.This renaming of the benefits program is intended to emphasize the job search and reemployment services offered to Florida's unemployed.

Florida is one of the few states in the country to have low unemployment rates, hovering around the national average. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity administers the Reemployment Assistance Program which provides unemployment insurance benefits for up to 19 weeks for jobless workers who have been out of job due to no fault of their own.

To file your claim you must login to the state’s CONNECT site for state unemployment benefits.   Once you are registered, you can return to the CONNECT site to locate “my Florida unemployment” for updates on your claim status and more.
