Ftp Root Login

Feb 27, 2017 · HI ALL, I am trying to login to my VPS(Centos 7) through FTP Client(Bullet Proof BPFTP) but unable to login via ROOT User and Password...although i am able to login to my cPanel accounts but i need to login to my VPS through user ROOT as i need to download the backups file that are located in /backup folder.. you can see the screen shot as

By default root login in ftp server is disabled. We can enable it for testing purpose only. This is not recommended for the system administrator to enable, because of the security issue. Anybody can hack the root password; this (ftp) is not secure login.

Generally ftp to another machine's root login is not allowed since root is a system user .If you have to login as root for ftp (in the case of linux ,I don't know in solaris) remove the user root from the ftp file (in case of vsftpd) "/etc/vsftpd.ftpusers ". Regards, Vishva

Don't FTP as root: the FTP protocol passes user ID and password as clear text (un-encrypted). If anyone catches the FTP login sequence, and there are sniffers that do exactly that, they have your root password. That out of the way, it could be anything. You'll have to name the FTP server software.

Dec 24, 2009 · Seriously speaking, you do not want that.. ftp is a legacy protocol and very unsafe even for normal users not to even mention for root! So, I strongly urge you to use sftp(ssh ftp) instead.

I am setting up FTP on CentOS. I want client to login in server with username : root. For that, I modified /etc/vsftpd/ftpusers and commented root.
