The Garmin eLog compliant ELD accurately records and tracks your driving data automatically and then securely stores it locally to your smartphone, never in the cloud. Adding the free Garmin eLog app allows your records to be wirelessly transferred to your compatible smartphone¹ for viewing by you anytime.

Send files recorded by a Garmin eLog ELD to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) with the eLog Web Portal

Garmin eLog™ works with many Garmin dēzl GPS truck navigators (sold separately) — such as the dēzl 580, dēzl 780, and dēzlCam 785 — so you can easily view duty status and HOS information right on the navigator’s display. Some dēzl navigators require smartphone or tablet¹ in order to view remaining hours on the dēzl display.

The administrator account is critical for some app functions. Choose an administrator password you can remember, and do not lose the password. The administrator password cannot be recovered without clearing all app data, which causes all recorded Garmin eLog™ data to be deleted.

From the Garmin eLog™ app, select Add Driver. Enter the administrator password. Enter the driver and motor carrier information. If the driver has an exempt status, select Exempt Driver. If the driver is allowed to use the vehicle for personal conveyance, select Allow Personal Conveyance. If the driver is allowed to make yard moves, select Allow Yard Moves.

Starting a Drive Each time you drive your vehicle, you should complete these actions to ensure your hours of service information is recorded correctly. Verify the Garmin eLog™ adapter is secured to the vehicle diagnostic port.

From the Garmin eLog™ app, select the duty status record for the affected time period. Select Duty Status. Select the correct duty status for the time period. If necessary, update the start and end times for the duty status entry. If necessary, enter the location where this duty status was active.
