Oct 01, 2018 · If you aren't comfortable editing the registry hive directly, you can use any of the generic live boot disks that can reset passwords for you to do it semi-automatically. This is why Windows tells you "Once you remove this machine from the domain, you will need a local administrator account and password to login again after you restart."

Jul 19, 2010 · Hello Yuki Before you converted from domain to workgroup, you should have change the local administrator's password. Now that you are already in the workgroup, all you need is to login locally using a local computer account. If you can't remmember the password which is your case, then you viable option is to re image/ reinstall windows on the laptop.

The only issue with going from domain to workgroup is you are now logging in with local accounts and you don't have access to the domain profiles on the local drive which is why you can't logon. This is why you set the administrator account to a password you know before you make the change.

Jan 31, 2014 · Tried it, didn't help. BTW, on my domain PC's remote admin is disabled though I can still do what I want with them remote. So there is something else on these workgroup systems that is preventing me from connecting to \\hostname\C$. Jonathan

Mar 08, 2010 · I'm trying to access a shared folder on a 2000 Server, which is outside the domain. Using XP, 2003, or any other OS there I had no problem accessing the share with regular UNC e.g. \\computer. However, from the Win 7 computer I hit a brick wall every time. The login window pops up and I can't login even though I'm using a valid user.

Feb 16, 2012 · I changed the domain on my work laptop to Workgroup so I could print on my local LAN at home and now I can not login using my user name and password. My laptop has a PGP total disk encryption. I can log in on the first PGP login screen. After that, Win7 login appears and I can not login using my usual name and password.
